I recently went through the ordeal of buying a headset, and asked advice on the internet. Here's my opinion:

Every audiophile out there recommended fancy headsets, but they were far in excess of what a gaming headset costs! We're talking between 1 and 3 grand!

I owned a 5.1 headset for a while, complete waste of money, poor drivers with an absolutely tiny sound stage, so you couldn't get tthe full benefit of tall those tiny drivers.

I eventually got a fancy audiophile headset for a bargain through a friend of a friend. Open back, so massive sound stage. Vastly superior to any 5.1 headset. A word of caution though- open back means sound leaks in and out. Don't get if you have other people around you who don't want to be disturbed, or have a gaggle of geese in your bedroom.

THing is with this headset- no integrated mic. I bought a clip on mic, so I have two wires going to my pc, and a shoddy mic that isn't at my mouth. Frustrating, but that's what I get for listening to audiophiles I guess. I used an old headset's boom mic, magnetized it, and now have a decent headset.

If I were to do it all again, and couldn't get 80% off a great headset like I did- I'd just go to a store, find the most comfortable cheap and cheerful headset with an integrated mic, and bought that.

Just my opinion, don't get angry at me pretty please.
