Question Researcher asks: Do some gamers have the edge over others?

    Hi all!

I would really appreciate your help on this plus it will be a fun and interesting experience

I am doing my Honours in Psychology at Wits and chosen and therefore excited to do my research on gamers and cognition (higher order function of the brain).

I am looking for participants that are male gamers from Johannesburg between the ages of 18 and 25, that are fluent in English and have at least a Matric.

*edited note*: if you are 25-30 years old please still contact me

I need two types of gamers (who play on any format):

    1. Those who have only played first or third person shooter games for at least the last 6 months
    2. Those who have only played strategy games for at least the last 6 months

There are a few other inclusion criteria but if you are anyhow interested in being part of my research please private message me and we can go from there.

    Thank you in advance

    Paula

Wow, I don't even fall in the 25-30 category. I may be getting frail in my old age, and not have the reflexes of the younger geeks.

Talking of edge, I think students, and at least single gamers have an edge over people with full time jobs, and wives/kids, because they have way more time to practice...

Haha maybe. but i wanna see if shooter gamers and strategy gamers differ in their cognitive skills in everyday functioning not just in the games they play interesting to think about what skills you develop when you play different genres

Well I would like to participate but I am in Durban

From first person shooters, hand to eye coordination should increase greatly. Your visual aspect of making friend or foe will also increase (the time it take to make a decision from what you see to what is happening).

im almsot too old for your survey .. Im 25 on the dot.

Played competitively over 3 fps titles for 8 years now.

From what i can say is that reaction time increases drasticaly.

Esp where cars pull infort of you and you need to sum a sitation. >The amount of things you can gayther in a short time and make decisions greatly increases.

When some 1 tries to scare you jumping around a corner I dont get startled as much as any of my friends.

When we went down to fire some weapons ive never fired before my accuracy was far above par and way more than my friends, Purely becaue i knew how to aim down the sites as ive used the gun plenty in certain games.

If you need a survey i can help out.

that is if im not too old.

One thing that does make me smile now, is that i'm not the only "old guy" in this community and who still plays games!!!

Speaking of feeling old, the other day, a friend found a picture of me from his 21st birthday. That was eleven years ago. It's amazing the difference a decade can make to the way you look. I used to be way skinnier for one thing.
