Windows 98 was "great" actually. Especially the 2nd edition. Win2k and WinME was actually released alongside each other as they were part of different platforms. Win 2k was follow-up of Windows NT and WinME was follow-up of Win98. As of Windows XP, the two platforms were "merged" into one.
Windows Vista sucked at release (mostly due to high resource usage and being unstable), but after SP1, I found it to be much better than XP. If I were to pay for it, I probably wouldn't have done the upgrade but since I get the versions as released, it made sense to do the upgrade to Vista when it became stable.

Yes, MS screws up every second OS... Seeing that Win 7 was such a win, they really need to boss up to beat it... and instead they go and make it look like a stupid tablet interface thing. I know you can remove Metro, but meh...
The thing is though, that Win 8 WILL be a success, because MS caters for the 90% of the market who are computer illiterate or semi literate, not for us who know the OS and actually do not pay for it.
I finally found more info which this or the actual article writer didn't bother to link. The throwing of the toys seems to evolve around windows RT and its limitations towards application developers. You must use metro, the end.
However looking at windows RT it is only for tablets, phones and ARM pcs. Now an ARM pc seems to be a small factor pc being something totally different to what one would call a PC. I would wonder why you then would run steam of a thing so crap it could have been a tablet/phone. Windows 8 and windows 8 PRO does not enforce metro.
Looking at windows RT and the devices it is suppose to run on, it is then quite logical like apple to enforce closed system.
It now then seems that gab and rob (blizzard) are just complaining about something that doesn't even concern them since the pc users won't be needing ARM and RT unless they are still playing ally cat on a "rooted" arm pc.
