Wow, I never thought that statistic was so low, considering how many people complained about the ending.
I finished this and the other two Mass Effect games (obviously). Dragon Age: Origins I never finished, but I am planning to. My attention span is terrible when it comes to finishing long games.

If you consider the figures of the entire series:
ME1: 40% of players Finished the game
ME2: 56% of players Finished the game
ME3: 42% of player Finished the game
and then compare the number to games that didn't undergo a massive internet lashing like
BF3: 17% of people finished the single player campaign.
COD: Black Ops: 18.6% of people finished the single player campaign.
Fallout 3: 45% of people completed the main quest.
Darksiders: is down to 30%
Dead Space: 43.24%
and are considered "Good" by many these figures are hardly what I would call bad & seems to hold up fairly well. It is common knowledge that a large majority of the people simply dont finish games and that often those screaming loudest about how bad the game is didn't finish it. (Not all mind you but a fair few).
That's still a few million people who finished the game, plenty of people to complain about the ending.Although yeah it is quite silly not to see these games through. Even while saying that I'm staring at my huge list of unfinished games on steam...
yes I did finish ME3. I recently made a list of the games I want to finish in the order I want to finish them. I highly recommend doing something like this if you have a bunch of games you haven't finished yet. So far I've completed 2 on my list and the list was only setup a week ago.

Depending on the length of the game I find it hard to stick to one at a time. So sometimes I find picking two quite different games help, so you can jump between them as you see fit, atm playing F:NV and SR:TT.

When you think about it Dragon Age: Origins did pretty damn well. 42% completion for ME3 which took me maybe around 20hrs to finish compared to 36% completion of DAO which took me 70hrs to finish.
We actually just had this conversation in the office - I think the only game I have which I haven't finished is Batman: Arkham City (don't even ask my why, because I don't know.)
I was generally surprised that people would blow a significant amount of cash on something they never want to finish. I certainly don't.
Yeah based on the March sales figures alone its about 1.47 million people who finished it. The question is of those 1.47 mill how many where those lambasting it from every direction? Peoples reason for disliking the ending is their own, I would just be curious to know in which part of the pie chart most of the hater lay.That's still a few million people who finished the game, plenty of people to complain about the ending.
