The outlook for South African students may be more positive than expected. Erasmus said that selected local universities have volume licensing agreements with Microsoft South Africa
which allows students to get access to free copies of Windows and the Office Suite. Part of this agreement between Microsoft and the participating Universities affords students the right to use the product free of charge.
It has been confirmed that
these agreements will carry over to the Windows 7 release, meaning that students will be able to get free copies of the operating system from their respective IT Departments provided they are enrolled at the institution.
