Separating Nuclear Union from the Post-Apocalyptic Wasteland

Though Nuclear Union is clearly inspired by hits like Fallout, its story and mechanics set it apart from the rest of the post-apocalyptic pack.

Got this in my Gamespot newsletter. Could be interesting.

No guts, no glory, no brain, same story.

IMO there can never be enough post-apocalyptic RPGs. This looks promising, will keep an eye on it.

They really need to move away from a nuclear apocalypse as the only apocalypse, also not zombies. I think at least the Last of Us is doing some kind of virus which kills nearly everyone which leaves most of the buildings and infrastructure in place.

I hate that word... apocalypse and this world ending meaning that been attached to it. Apocalypse from the Greek apocálypsis, is an unveiling of something hidden.

I think the idea of the world ending by nuclear war remains so persistent in media is because its still by large a tangible and known threat to our everyday life. Unlike alien invasion or virus which exists, mostly, purely with in fiction we seen the damage nuclear weapons can do, the idea that rouge dictators or even democratic countries have access such wanton destructive capabilities strikes fear into our hearts. We have places like The Zone around Chernobyl and Pripyat and the disaster at Fukushima has reminded us that this can and will happen. Looking at the Dooms day clock's time line it shows how close we have come to the edge of the abyss over the years. (http://www.thebulletin.org/content/d...clock/timeline)

RAGE tried end of the world by meteorite & we've had the odd robopocalypse... would be nice to have something else I agree.

Sure it may be the most likely but doesn't mean it's the most interesting. Or at least interesting enough to be done over and over and over again.

Yeah zombies are also at/past saturation point but at least with zombies their presentation varies quite significantly from game to game. Nuclear devastation always seems to be similar, brown barren wastelands devoid of civilization and occupied by mutated humans and wildlife. They could at least do the reclaimed by nature theme or go Judge Dredd style of small highly dense pockets of civ.
