So? Its £1.32 a litre here which works out to R17.51. That is paying alot for petrol. Granted we have better public transport but only really matters in the big cities, living in the suburbs or out side of major metropolitan areas and you are dependant on a car.

The avg salary in the UK is a lot more than the avg salary in SA.
Also the public transport in SA is NON exsistent mate.

I know, you cant compare the price of in thing here (or its Rand value) with the price in SA. Heck I pay £4.20 for my morning Muffin and Orange Juice in the morning.

Its an Awesome Muffin and the orange juice is freshly squeezed. My average lunch cost me between £5 & £9. Me and the Wife spend around £40 - £50 a week on groceries and £60 for travel for both of us. But yeah, I earn £1440 a month which is about R20K compared to the R7.5K I got in SA working as a clinic manager. And this is an low to mid level job. Some people dont get why we go Galt, answer is quality of life.

Yeah Omega, the petrol is R18 over there, but how much of it do you use in a month

I had a car while in England for a while, we only used it over weekends, in the week public transport is the logical and faster choice...

In the big cities yeah but if you live outside of the city you are dependant on a car. I worked in Warwickshire for a year or 2 and it was an hours walk to the closest bus stop.
