    Are they even allowed to put the game on Steam since they don't actually own the game they are remaking?

    This project has been going on for a very long time. I think valve would have had issues ages back already. Then again valve is not EA or Blizzard or Apple (yeah I said it) so there.

    Valve is allowing it. They asked them to change the name (originally included "source") though to avoid confusion. They try to help people create mods - which is effectively what this is.

    I'm sure if they really needed to they could crush it in court - thats not going to happen though.
