    Default Which keyboard?

    Howzit guys and gals...

I would like to have your opinions about the following. My birthday is coming up and the wife said she will give me R1000 to get something that I would like. My old Cyber Snipa Warboard is nearing end of life and I would love to get a new one. Now herein lies the question. Do I go for mechanical or stay with "normal" keyboards. I would love something with a bit of lights and a usb port. I have seen the following which fits a bit into my budget (well almost - i'll twist her arm a bit). Coolermaster Trigger, Thermaltake Meka G-Unit, Razer blackwidow Ultimate. What would you guys recommend out of these and others maybe?

    Thanks!

I don't get this... does mechanical not mean "has moving parts"

Regular modern keyboards use membranes, some old kbs and new expensive gaming ones use mechanical keys. I don't recall the arguments for and against the two types all I know is that mechanical kbs are noisy as hell and you can tell the difference immediately when using one.

I have the Gigabyte Avia, nice keyboard, with lights and usb port on the side. R650 odd but then again I can't understand why people would spend R1000 on a keyboard

I wouldn't touch the blackwidow ultimate, heard loads of stories of them failing. Keys getting stuck etc. What about the Cyborg V7? Or the Logitech G510? Both great KB's. Or if you want something a little different the Steelseries Merc stealth is pretty cool.

if you want it to last , Then get Logitech.

The new G510 is a good choice ( use one for my gaming ) but Ive also got a G19. IF you lan a lot .. don't go G19 it requires external power.

The G510 can set the keys to multiple colours and even has a on-board sound card.

The G110 is the budget keyboard minus the LCD. So it should be a OK>

Id try and see if i can get a nice deal on a G110 keyboard and then get myself a G400 mouse .

best treat you can give yourself

I bought the Roccat Arvo earlier this year as I wanted something compact and sturdy - don't need 500 macro keys and too much backlighting, and a month later I saw the Isku and I still find myself drooling over it.

I can definitely vouch for the quality build of the Roccat brand as all my PC peripherals are Roccat - even have the Apuri for my mouse just to complete the set.

The mechanical keyboards are quite popular as well. Not only the clicky sounds of the keys (you get used to that -I actually enjoy the sound and will probably upgrade to mechanical soon), but the responsiveness, how nice it feels to type on them etc. Do yourself a favour, and go to a PC shop that has mechanical keyboards in stock and check it out for yourself. You'll be amazed by the difference between that and the normal membrane keyboards. DAS is a good brand, also see the ones from Coolermaster, very nice.

If I had the bucks, THIS, would have been my new keyboard: http://www.coolermaster-usa.com/prod...torm%20Trigger

yeah Logitech are good. I had a Logitech media keyboard, its now at work. Picked it up for R100 and am very impressed with it. Not the most expensive keyboard but for its price bracket it is definitely the best out there so the name is more then just a name it really is quality. I think the g110 is nearing the end of its shelf life as it has been out for a long time so I would go for the g510 out of the 2.
