The beginning of the movie had me in tears.ops:
I am a sucker for sad realities such as those portrayed at the start of Up.ops:
Man goes on a journey with an amusing and sometimes helpful sidekick or two, faces a trial which he overcomes [with help] and returns home. That's the broad outline of it and I believe that they call that sort of story "The Mythic Journey".
Of course, there is detail attached to that generic outline, but it doesn't do anything unexpected [Well, the survival of Mr Frederickson's one-time hero on the plateau was a surprise, but one I should have seen coming earlier. <facepalm>
I am not going to make too much of an issue of this as most stories end on a high note. Humanity cannot bear too much reality, [as T.S. Eliot said] I suppose.
There was the odd moment of restrained laughter from me [out of consideration for the other people in the room]
Pixar's CG was impressive as usual. I would like to know how they achieved the appearance of the clouds in the short movie, "Carried away" [something of a tradition with Pixar movies, it seems]
Still, it was better than GI Joe in my opinion and came with no language advisories. ;-)
