Thread: Towns on Steam

    Default Towns on Steam

Last week I bought this little game (yes it was on special at the time, currently still 20% off it seems):

    http://store.steampowered.com/app/221020/

It is called Towns, and is still in Alpha, and quite buggy, but damn I had lots of fun getting my town built and stuff. The basic idea is to build the town (and manage almost every aspect of that), let the citizens run and manage it, and in the end attract heroes to come and explore through your town. It's got a distant similarity to Minecraft... You create buildings, harvest raw materials, get a supply and food chain thing going, make a tavern, houses for your people, chicken coops - quite a great deal of things!

Anyway, even in its alpha state I still find it highly enjoyable and a great time waster! Plus I always like helping out Indie developers. And it has HUGE potential, so check it out if you haven't already!

Who else have played it so far?

    Cheers
    Rudi

    Not turn based.

    Also bought it.

It is slightly frustrating when you start. No tool tips yet. Still need to get into it. I'm used to games like Caesar III.

I was also intrigued when I saw this. Almost caved and bought it. I get an isometric Minecraft vibe from the visual style.

Didn't get in the end due to a reignited passion for Minecraft; will be keeping an eye on it though

It's actually a combination of the two, everything happens in real time, but behind the scenes there are actually turns taking place. For example, it takes a certain amount of turns to eat certain things for the citizens, and combat is also turn based, etc. But everything happens at real time

I bought this in a Indie Royal Bundle back in February.
From the initial version I bought and what the game is today, it is VERY clear that the guys behind this is putting in alot of time and effort.

I would really recommend this to any RTS gamer. It does get frustrating at certain points, e.g. there was an issue with the people not eating and then getting Locked in hunger state (they just stop moving and then die). They fixed the issue and now they just move slower but still eat. This shows me that the Developer is listening to people playing the game.

Once you get to grips with the balance of getting food and ensuring you have a proper army in place the game gets to be alot of fun!

Likewise, games likes Caesar and Pharaoh (Anno1602 too) are the sort of thing I thought of. Hopefully they will work ok it because it looks like a quality game in the making.

The game looks interesting, but not worth more than R80 in my opinion...?
