Great debate, Azimuth and Xarog.
As a kid, I also pirated many games, but I now see the error in my ways.
Since I'm involved in developing software, I know that it takes a huge amount of effort to "collect all the ideas", but it also take a huge amount of manual labour, putting those ideas into a language the computer can understand. If there were other means of getting paid for doing that work, then I'd be all for "free software". But in this world, the only incentive for "collecting ideas" is cash. Money makes the world go round after all.
Even though I do agree more with what Azimuth has said, I'd also like to be informed about the "under-represented side".
Xarog, I'm really looking forward to that article!
Azimuth, Xarog. Remind me never to get into an argument (read: debate) with the two of you. I'm going to have to be sitting on a stack of encyclopedias to do it.
Regardless - I'm not really the debating type, even though I do feel compelled to toss my cents in from time to time - I agree with some of the points both of you made. It took half an hour's worth of reading, but I wouldn't have missed it for anything.
For those of you who found it boring ... why on earth were you still reading?
