Its amazing how it took almost 3 years and the news of a sequel before people stated to appreciate it.
For all you guys that only started to play Dark Souls now, take your time. Don't rush and try to finish it just to play Dark Souls II. You are going to rob yourself from the best gaming experience you will ever have. Finish the game, start a new game plus and do everything you didn't do the first time. Then one night you will wake up and realize that in the back of your mind that your brain is trying to but that story line together. Start a new character and find yourself paying attention to everything that the NPC's are saying and read every item description like its Stephen King novel. Then once you have finished the game again and you come to the realization of what you have done. How carelessly you have been killing innocence, those trying to just protect themselves and the ones they love. You drive yourself mad trying to find a way with a new character to only kill those that need to be killed and avenge the ones that have been wronged. Only to find out that the story runs even deeper than you thought and then everything is connected and you are the evil. Almost hand in hand with Gwyn destroying the world.

That reminds me, I need to get new batteries for my controller so that I can play tonight.

Demon Souls was a bit ruff around the edges but not to be forgotten. For being the first of its kind I can see how many people rank Demon Souls above Dark Souls. Dark Souls was just a bit more polished and personally I like the story more. Dark Souls II from what I have seen will stand the test of time better than his siblings. ^_^

Demon's Souls will always be the better game IMO. The gameplay was a lot smoother in Demon's Souls, not that it was bad in Dark Souls, but Demon's Souls just felt better to me. I also really liked the hub system and the world- and character tendency systems. Dark Souls felt like a more linear game to me in the sense that I felt I should approach areas in a specific order if I wanted to make any progress.

I preferred the boss battles in Demon's as well. I will never forget the Flamelurker and how much trouble it gave me. Some of the other bosses and NPC's are also a lot more memorable than any in Dark Souls e.g. Penetrator, Tower Knight, False King, Patches, Yurt the Silent Chief, etc. I can't think of one NPC that stood out for me in Dark Souls, granted I haven't finished it yet. I have finished Demon's Souls 3 times though (and lost all of my save data ).

Will definitely still get Dark Souls 2 as well, but I will be waiting for the PC version.

You probably played DeS first? I played DS first so for me it's the other way around. I prefer how the combat feels in DS, it has more weight to it, I also found the bosses in DeS to be too easy. I even beat Flame Lurker on my first attempt although I did find regular enemies to be harder in DeS.

While I liked the Nexus I generally prefer an more open world structure rather than hub areas in RPG's so again this is why I preferred DS. Either way I'm super stoked for DS2 this weekend!

Can we maybe get these two threads merged or lock one?

    This is getting confusing.

Yeah, I played DeS a long time before DS, I still imported the Asian version about a year before the local release, but that has nothing to do with why I prefer DeS. I'm confident had I played DS first, I would still prefer DeS. Everything in DeS was just better for me, the weapons, the areas, the bosses, the NPC's etc. Like I said I can't think of one NPC in DS that stood out (except maybe Solaire), but DeS had many. Tower of Latria is also pretty much the most terrifying level I have ever come across in a game. I also found the Dexterity stat in DS to be almost useless to upgrade past a certain point since it didn't really have an impact on your ranged damage. In DeS my main weapon was the Lava Bow (once I used the Flamelurker's soul) and my Dexterity was much higher than any other stat.

Did you beat the Flamelurker the first time on NG+ as well? How about Old King Doran or the False King (delevelling bastard ) ?

I also enjoy open world games, but like I said DS doesn't really feel like a "full" open world, i.e. you almost have to visit the different areas in a specific order.

All this talking about it is making me want to play both games again before I get DSII in April (hopefully), but I just started replaying Dragon Age: Origins yesterday... Shit, it's going to be in the back of my head no matter what other game I play now.
