Default Bank's sexist promotion sparks outrage

A Chinese bank's offer to automatically transfer most of a husband's income to his wife's account has provoked fury, with some calling it "the most atrocious banking service against men in history".

On its website China Merchants Bank (CMB), a major financial institution, describes its "capital accumulation" service as a "time- and energy-efficient" way for a couple to save money.

Using fictional newly-weds Xinyan and Wenhao as an example of...read more here: Bank's sexist promotion sparks outrage

I agree, I stopped going to MyBroadband.co.za because of this kind of nonsense, and now it's spilling over here.

We are posting current affairs news, sourced from the South African Press Association. We are posting it into the off-topic section. It is a trial to see if we can encourage more interaction, spark more discussions, and generally keep the forum community lively.

There are plenty of other gaming specific forum sections where discussions take place so I don't really see a problem with this.

I'm not sure exactly what this kind of "nonsense" is. If you don't like the topic, you don't have to engage with it. You are of course welcome to share your opinion that this isn't the kind of news you like to read, and that won't go unnoticed. If the overwhelming majority of people on the forum start complaining, then I'll remove the feed.

So far, I'm seeing increased activity in off-topic and folks engaging in discussions around the news topics posted.

I don't really have a problem with it. I suppose I should get my news from somewhere
Perhaps though, maybe it would be better to create a new root-forum (or whatever it is called) for this... maybe something like "Non-gaming News" rather than in Off Topic.

When I visit Off Topic, my eye first check to see if there are any changes to the Joke thread, ???? of the Day, etc. and with all these news in-between, my "commonly watched" topics gets moved down a bit.

    Just a suggestion.

No guts, no glory, no brain, same story.

If it doesn't affect me personally or physically... I couldn't care 2 fly f*cks. That sounds narrow-minded, but the fact is...
If I'm not personally affected by this... It's got no influence on my life, and therefore does not exist to me.

I don't mind news in Off Topic, but this kind of thing is just... I dunno, silly. If anything, it's the men being sexist by implying there's anything wrong with women getting money from their husbands.

Major overreaction and outrage over petty nonsense is all this is. Nobody is being forced to use the bank's service, so how can it be 'undermining men?'
