Private schools grow in SA
Private school attendance rose by 87 percent between 2000 and 2011, according to a report on Thursday.
Parents were losing faith in public schools, where enrolment only grew by 13 percent in the same period, reported Business Day, quoting from the SA Institute of Race Relations' latest survey.
According to the survey, the number of private schools grew from 971 to 1486 between 2000 and 2011.

Interesting I can see parents wanting to provide the best environment for their children, however there are a number of great Public schools in certain area's and it all depends on where and what you want and can afford for your children.
Some private schools are excessive and I think they have become more of a statement than an educational institution. With a child of my own this very question has been raised.

If there was a good government school in my area, we would not hesitate to send our boys there. There isn't, so it's private schooling for our kids.
Most people I've met who went to private schools are completely unable to operate effectively in a social work environment. That's putting it mildly. Perhaps things have changed since then, but that's always been my experience.
