I flushed mine AFTER they died, but never had to kill one!!!
With fish caught from the sea, a quick way to do this is a knife or screw driver through the head... works immediately.
TBlaar - Only had to do it a couple of times, I had some siamese fighter females that developed culminarus - untreatable and horrible way for fishies to die, so I killed them.
I don't think I've ever had lobster, and don't think I ever will.
Not a seafood person.
putting chlorine in the tank also works quite well...
