I was actually referring to the (bi)cyclists only, not the bikers. that was my bad, I should have stated that more clearly. obviously you can't put a bike on the sidewalk. motorbikes aren't as in the way as bicycles are.

The other thing they should then do, is to impose a time ban on cyclists using their road bikes on public roads... Just like they do for trucks.... as they hold up traffic. I have sat behind 3 cyclists on the back road behind Durbanville (under the trees) for minutes because they have to ride 3 abreast.

Then the ban should be on certain roads at peak traffic times, meaning between 6 and 9 in the mornings, and between 4 and 7 in the evenings, you stay off those roads with your bicycle.

When I did mountain biking, I stayed on the pavement where I could, on the way to a place where I did the actual cycling. The thing with road bicyclers though, is that their "place " is in the traffic.

Just like pedestrians get hit now and then and nobody cares, it should be the same for cyclists! If one of you get hit, then don't take it personally!

It shouldn't really be such an issue, if drivers go wide around bicycles, and cyclists do their best not to obstruct traffic. IMO, cyclists should be riding in single file on the edge of the road, in the emergency lane if there is one, close to the pavement if there isn't, then drivers can go wide around them, and everyone's fine.

The problem is when cyclists take up the whole road, or when drivers drive past too close to the cyclists.

    Default Cyclists ignore safety measures

Is it just me or does ot look like cars have think about their safety and also bikes, bicycles and pedestrians however cyclists and bike riders show no regard for the rules and that's ok.
I just don't see why there is much defence for a group that are generally disrespectful to other road users and often in breach of the law.
Isn't the best answer to give and take equally? I.E. Bikes and cyclists don't ride down the centre of traffic, stop at stop streets and don't hold up other vehicles and in return cars will observe the 1.5 meter passing rule and give way as with normal traffic. I know I wouldn't get so frustrated if saw some respect back on the road.

I agree with this. I never said that motorists should drive like maniacs with no regard for cyclists, but I think it's really unfair because there's this attitude that motorists have to go the extra mile simply because they're the ones who are safer in case of an accident.

NO. Cyclists also have to observe safety procedures and be mindful of car drivers.

Or else I will mow them down.

You are a shining example of why it's best to not cycle on South African roads. When last did a cyclist kill a motorist? You are in a car, you need to show greater restraint!

So you disagree with what I'm saying and you're essentially saying cyclists simply don't have to give a fuck? That only motorists have to be respectful of the other road users?

Shouldn't you as the cyclist show some restraint to other road users before expecting the same consideration.

What you are seeing is not a reason why SA roads are unsafe for cyclists but the results of cyclists disrespect for fellow road users and the related discontent they now feel towards the general cycling community.
