    Default SAA dumps food

Employees of Air Chefs, a division of SA Airways, are facing disciplinary action following the dumping of mounds of food, the Sunday Times reported.

In one weekend in December, Air Chefs dumped 840 lemon meringues, 250 cheese snack foccacias, 300 turkey croissants, almost 1000 bread rolls and 150 millefeuille desserts, the newspaper reported.

According to the report this was weeks before the airline's bosses asked the government for an emergency R550 million guarantee to cover...read more here: SAA dumps food

Just one more reason why I will never fly with SAA or any of their partners. I refuse to support corruption.

Sometimes dumping food makes sense. Think about it...say 10k worth of food that was recently defrosted & has a shelf life of a couple of hours. Now you need to somehow transport this in freezer trucks at huge cost. Hire a couple of guards to ensure that there isn't a stampede, strip the branding from the packaging and maybe get some lab tests done to ensure its safe. And then you still get sued for 10 million because someone felt queasy after eating a meringues of yours. Queue Carte Blanche report on irresponsible behavior by the company etc.

CFO and legal council take one look at the above and 20 seconds later the consensus is: Fck it. Dump the food and increase the social responsibility budget a quarter of a percent. Moving on, the next item on the agenda of this meeting is the 10 million rand loss incurred on jet fuel futures yesterday...[cut scene]

Unless you need some social responsibility brownie points. Then you sink half a million into this & make it work even though it makes no financial sense whatsoever.
