    Default Magic mushrooms arrest

A man and a woman have appeared in the George Magistrate's Court for alleged possession of "magic" mushrooms worth about R20,000 on the street, Western Cape police said on Tuesday.

Captain Malcolm Pojie said the 25-year-old man and 23-year-old woman were arrested on Friday. They appeared in court the same day.

The woman could not be linked to the crime and was released. The man was granted bail of R1500 bail and the case was postponed until July 25.

The Garden Route is kind of renowned for its hippies and their narcotics of choice (cannabis and psilocybin). I think these two just advertised too loudly

R1 500 bail vs R20 000 worth of mushrooms, I'm pretty sure he will be back out there trying to get funds for his case.

Yeah, but they don't say that the 26,000 motor accidents were caused by stoners

You make a good point. It can easily be argued that motor vehicle accidents are largely the result of intoxicated drivers. But then, they don't mention that the 26,000 motor accidents were caused by people with visual disorders, road rage, illegal licences or the like either. It's presupposed that all sorts of factors went into it.

Logically, it's pretty much a given that being stoned, intoxicated or otherwise in a state unfit for driving is bad. That doesn't necessarily mean that alcohol should be completely outlawed because a significant percentage of drivers get behind the wheel intoxicated.

Anyone who drinks alcohol would immediately argue that it infringes upon their rights and their liberties and that no innocent or responsible individual should be punished for the stupidity of others.

The same argument holds true for "stoners."

    On that note:

Newish drug in Russia called Krokodil. It's a desomorphine that apparently has a more intense high than heroine but lasts for a much shorter period. It's called "krokodil" (crocodile) because of the texture long-term users' skin takes on. It damages tissue (although I'm not sure if this is because of the byproducts it's made with or if it's because of the desomorphine itself) and many long-term users have their limbs amputated.

This video is of precisely that happening.

My opinion on drugs is thus: everyone is free to use whatever drugs they want as long as it doesn't harm anyone else and they are consenting adults. But the moment drug use turns into something as brutal as this, heroine, tik and the like, then I completely support outlawing it and punishing dealers (and users whose nasty habit results in the harm of others) to the full extent of the law.

Stoners prefer to stay at home and hotbox things

Yeah, but they don't say that the 26,000 motor accidents were caused by stoners

The overriding theme is that, for various reasons, stoned drivers aren't dangerous. Reasons cited include stoners slower driving and their tendency to stay home rather than go out partying.
    I rest my case...

I don't drive myself, but I feel the safest in a car when driving with my (stoner) friends. If you've ever been in a car where the driver is stoned you would probably know that they tend to concentrate on the road a lot more and drive a lot more carefully than your average driver. It might have something to do with the paranoia that usually comes with being stoned causing them to be extra careful when driving.
