Default Manganese detected in Pretoria water

High levels of manganese have been detected in water in areas in Pretoria, the City of Tshwane said on Tuesday.

Spokeswoman Nomasonto Ndlovu said areas including Montana, Sinnoville, Wonderboom and Pretoria North were affected but that the water posed no health risk.

"Manganese and iron at high concentration affects the aesthetic appearance of the water and does not pose a health risk... the water will have a metallic taste," Ndlovu said in a statement.

Ja well, no fine. You tell me there's something in the water that shouldn't be there and there's no way I'll relax while drinking it. No ways.

    Straight from Wikipedia

Waterborne manganese has a greater bio-availability than dietary manganese. According to results from a 2010 study, higher levels of exposure to manganese in drinking water are associated with increased intellectual impairment and reduced intelligence quotients in school-age children. It is hypothesized that long-term exposure to the naturally occurring manganese in shower water puts up to 8.7 million Americans at risk.

Must say that's one thing I'm loving about Sweden--the tap water tastes like bottled water. It's totally flavourless and ice cold

Quite a nice change from having to buy bottled water back in ZA. I hate being able to taste metals/impurities water :/
