Default White beggars in South Africa earn R50 to R500 a day

White beggars in South Africa earn between R50 and R500 a day, the trade union Solidarity said on Tuesday.

A study conducted by Solidarity's Helping Hand revealed that most beggars would like to work, but do not have the necessary education.

About 78 percent of beggars interviewed said they would like to work and 19 percent said they had not worked before.

The study conducted in Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal and Western Cape was of perceptions...read more here: White beggars in South Africa earn R50 to R500 a day

The article opens with a line about 'white beggars' and then proceeds to list a bunch of statistics - but in the rest of the article they only say 'beggars.' Did the study include beggars of other races as well? It would be interesting to compare what percentage of beggars in SA are white (my bet is, very very small).

Still, it's an interesting world where beggars can (sometimes) make more in a day than farmworkers.

Those guys begging at the robots are freakin annoying. I have much more respect for a guy doing a shitty job like garbage collection or watching cars or whatever than for a beggar. Why on earth would I give my hard earned money to a guy that does absolutely fokkol in contrast to tipping somebody who actually works for his food.

Maybe because his need is greater than yours. A person must be in a pretty crappy place if standing at a robot all day is his/her only shot at a source of income. The fact that you are in a car at that robot means you're about a billion times better off than he is.

+10000 to your common sense and logic.

I feel very sorry for any person that judges these people. You will be judged in the same way that you judged them.

Well it seems that more and more beggars are popping up every where, also the age of the beggars seems to be going down to people in their 20's, so not much excuse for them not trying to work.

New study shows people would like to earn between R5000 and R50 000 pm. :P

R50 - R500 that is not a very good 'average' to take at all!

Surely with all their careful data harvesting they could at least have come up with an average that is more accurate?

    500*31= 15 500 pm

THATS MORE THAN I MAKE A MONTH

The R50 on the other hand is a bit harsh.

    1550 a month, i remember when i was earning 1600 a month with parents taking 1100 for rent :/
