    Default Graduate tax unfair: DA

An additional tax on working graduates would be unfair, the Democratic Alliance Youth said on Thursday.

"It would mean an extra payment on top of their income tax, at a time when many are struggling to make ends meet," federal DA Youth leader Makashule Gana said in a statement.

"Under these circumstances, a graduate tax could actively discourage students from entering tertiary level education."

We already pay so much in taxes. A tax on working graduates is just plain stupid. It makes my blood boil.

    Ridiculously stupid.

Here people are paid a few thousand by the government for as long as they study (up to six or seven years). You'd think that ZA would be doing everything they can to give people an incentive to get a tertiary education.

The ANC is so ass-backwards in the way it deals with problems...

    Welcome to Europe.

Its unfair, universities are funded through Tax funds and to tax their produce is effectively destroying the effects of said funding. Also students already have finance issues, don't further indebt us.

Damn straight! Try working full time and doing a BA through UNISA it's not easy and it's still expensive.

    - Massive skills shortage in the country?
Make people who acquire skills, pay more in tax. That should encourage people to study, right?

This is what happens when you have 5 million taxpayers supporting 50 million people. They just pile tax upon tax on those 5m.

The concept of taxing according to education level is so utterly retarded that the idea can only originate from the ANC. I thought we're trying to *encourage* education....

And risk losing those 50 million votes? Never. It's always been my opinion that the ANC is deliberately sabotaging education in this country.

That's right, tax the guys that want to get more education..

Gives the normal guy no incentive to go study further, why should he if he just going to get taxed more? Keep the people dumb and voting for the ANC... just bloody incredible, tough not to be racist really when you read all this crap everyday!
