    Default Telkom ADSL

Hey I'm hoping someone can answer my issue with a Telkom ADSL Line

I have a 1meg line uncapped, download speed at speedtest.net approx 105kb/s, ping 200 but upload only 6kb/s. That's the first problem, upload speed is horrific. Second problem is gaming. Dirt 3 online no problem no lag ping is ok. Got CS:GO yesterday but ping is north of 600 when good, otherwise 900+. Ping to www.mweb.co.za is 59ms and www.google.com is 200ms. Phoned telkom today, they reset the router now ping is 500+ and download speed is 80kb/s on speedtest.net. Kinda pointless exercise expecting them to actually be able to fix it. Can anyone explain why the ping is so high especially in CS:GO. No torrents running, no downloads. Could it be the line or is it more probably that the exchange is overloaded? Or rather that the line is being throttled for gaming?

    Thanks

Where are you located? Western Cape perhaps?

Nope Johannesburg. Although I got my Router IP address and used GeoIP to locate IP and found that for some reason my IP is located about 20km from Kimberley

I take it you are connecting to Local servers Correct? - International Servers = Lag.

Also could be your exchange that is seriously congested, if Telkom reset the line and it still persists then it's the exchange. IMO.

Yes I am connecting to local servers. After telkom reset the line it actually became worse

Sounds like either there is something/some one else on the line or it's exchange congestion. Noted that he is from Telkom so they could well be shaping/throttling you (?)

Yeah I think it's the line. Just tested Dirt 3 again and game still working fine online. No lag even though it's intl server. Doesn't make sense to me

It could also be a local traffic routing issue on Telkoms side.

If I am not mistaken, the local CS:GO server is located in Cape Town & that's where Telkom is having problems with their internet service. They are working on a fix(eta latest Sunday 17 Feb 2013) - best to wait until then to see if there is any improvement...
