Should you pre-order games?

Yes, I have stopped pre ordering. Although I am quite satisfied with X-COM: Enemy Unknown.

I think SCII-HotS will be my last pre-order. Got burned a few times with pre-orders for games that didn't live up to expectations.

Same x-com I play a bit at a time waiting for them to patch the thing that if you have a 95% change of hit and you miss yet on 35% you can hit them.

The last game I pre-ordered from a brick and mortar store was dragon age 2, on steam and origin I have pre-ordered only something that I have seen the gameplay and I liked what I saw and went ahead and pre-ordered it.

Deadspace 3 comes to mind I saw loads of gameplay just before the game would stop being on pre-order here in sa and I could get it for a bit cheaper and a few extra guns.
But the bs is the DLC that you could get on the same day. The weapons you get in that pack is so OP on normal you should just make the game hard or insane difficulty.

I'll pre-order if it's something I really want, otherwise I will either order a copy from work (and get it tax free!) or pick it up from another store.

I tend to pre-order games that I know I'll like, for example AC, GoW, CoD, BF, etc. I must say the only times that I were disappointed were CoD games, unsurprisingly. I think pre-ordering definitely has its place, but don't pre-order games like Duke Nukem, for example. Lol.

I use too, if I was fairly certain the game was going to be good, but got burnt with Diablo 3. Currently i have such a backlog that i'm not even pre-ordering games i know I will like, unless they come with an awesome pre-order bonus, like a free game.

I extremely rarely pre-order AAA games. I pre-ordered XCOM simply because the originals games were epic and the demo of this one was good enough to convince me that it would be a good game.

Otherwise I pre-order indy titles where I get a good deal and I have a very good suspicion that it will be a good game.

I don't pre-order games at the normal price, unless I get a very good deal - like XCOM's Civ 5 etc.

I do preorder sometimes. Althought I know it's stupid. I burned a few times (recently - Aliens Colonial Marines), but when I wait for some game a long time, I'm so impatient that I have to buy it :P

I'll pre-order games if I KNOW I'm going to enjoy it. Take CoH2 for instance... I'm a big fan of the originals and the expansion's and I didn't have to think twice about it :p

I pre-order pretty much every game that I am interested in, even if I'm not sure I'm going to buy it. Since there is no obligation when you pre-order, it's better for me to pre-order everything and then get all the extra stuff if I do decide to buy something.

If you can get it for cheaper online, and shipping or delivery is basically free, like Takealot.com then do it. Especially if it is something the stores do not have and it is a limited edition.

I present your prize for an awesome comment

Pre-order SC2: Heart of the Swarm a day before release at BT games, still scored the special price so i'll definitely do it again! :D

I'd only pre order if i really like the games series and that it comes with limited/collectors editions, while coming at a good price. Otherwise I never pre order.

It seems that the risk to reward ratio for pre-ordering is not worth it to me. I'd either wait and check out issues and wait for them to be sorted if it's a game a really want, or wait until it is cheaper to buy.
