If HoN was a really bad game I would of looked forward to this, but it's not.
It's a great and has already solved 80% of Dota's problems and is improving at a massive rate...

HoN is alread 2-3 years ahead, so Icefrog is gonna have to think up something truly amazing to be able to compete.

Was wondering if Icefrog will ever work for a company. Glad he did, it would just be a waste of talent if he codes the game as a hobby instead of a full-time job

I Like HON, But if they over do it on the idea there could be problems...
Stick with one game and upgrade it... HON is brand spanking new and Icey wants to make another one..??

    Sigh...

IceFrog is not Dota's inventor. I believe it was originally created by someone with the handle Guinsoo. IceFrog just took over when Guinsoo decided to bail. There is an item in the game named after Guinsoo (the glorious sheepstick ). Anyway, good for IceFrog, the man has worked hard on Dota and gets nothing but shit from the people who play it because he decided to make a minuscule balance-related change to a character... I hope he goes on to achieve great things with Valve

DesolationJake you are correct. Guinsoo started DotA. He is currently working with Riot games on League of Legends (LoL). However, he might be the first guy to make dota, he was not the first to make a AoS type of game (Aeon of Strife). The original guy made it in Starcraft, before warcraft even existed, then others followed that idea in warcraft and added heroes that can level. Guinsoos merely made another AoS, one of many, that was unbalanced. Icefrog decided to use that and balance it, but it could have been anyone's unbalanced game that icefrog took.

I prefer DoTA to HoN. It's really not about the graphics, it just plays better. I reckon with IceFrog at the helm, any project with an AoS feel to it will not only catch up, but overtake anything else out there.

Neither of you guys are quite right, lol.

Guinsoo created Dota All-stars, but the original Dota map, which All-stars is based on, was made by Eul (also an item named after him). But yeah, it was an AoS type map, just much simpler than most. To be fair, Guinsoo did most of the groundwork for core Dota gameplay, even tho 5.xx wasn't really balanced too well and could be pretty buggy, and it was already popular when Icefrog took over. Icefrog, in turn, did a really good job of refining the game.

I think everyone involved deserves kudos here, and we've got a bunch of great games thanks to them

The objective of the scenario is for each team to destroy the opponents' Ancients, heavily guarded structures at opposing corners of the map. Players use powerful units known as heroes, and are assisted by allied heroes and AI-controlled fighters called "creeps". As in role-playing games, players level up their hero and use gold to buy equipment during the mission.[2]

The scenario was developed with the "World Editor" of Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos, and was updated upon the release of the expansion, The Frozen Throne. There have been many variations of the original concept; the most popular is DotA Allstars, which has been maintained by several authors during development. The current developer is known by his pseudonym as "IceFrog".

Since its release, Allstars has become a feature at several worldwide tournaments, including Blizzard Entertainment's BlizzCon and the Asian World Cyber Games, as well as the Cyberathlete Amateur and CyberEvolution leagues; Gamasutra declared that DotA was perhaps the most popular "free, non-supported game mod in the world".[3]

Warcraft III World Editor is the official level editor for the real-time strategy game Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos and its expansion Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne. Based on the level editor of Blizzard's previous strategy game StarCraft, it allows players to create and customize their own scenarios and campaigns with a high level of detail and flexibility.[1] [2] The editor has been used in creating several custom maps, including the popular Defense of the Ancients map.[3][4] The level editor has been substantially improved in the expansion to the game, The Frozen Throne and allow users to create cut scenes supporting voice-overs.[5] Advanced features of the editor allow for custom models, tilesets and icons. The editor also supports Blizzard's JASS scripting language for programming complex actions otherwise not supported by the graphical interface.

IceFrog is the 3rd person to work on the DotA map, following Eul and Guinsoo.

Guinsoo went on to help design League of Legends.

League of Legends: Clash of Fates is an upcoming Multiplayer Online Battle Arena(MOBA)[2] video game developed and published by Riot Games for Microsoft Windows.[3] It was first announced on October 7, 2008 and scheduled to be released in October 2009. [4] The game has been in a closed beta since April 10, 2009. [5]

A previous designer for the popular Warcraft III custom map, Defense of the Ancients: Allstars (commonly abbreviated as DotA), Steve "Guinsoo" Feak, and a creator of the fansite which was previously the official support base for the map(www.dota-allstars.com), Steve “Pendragon” Mescon are involved with Riot Games in the making of League Of Legends: Clash of Fates[6]. Guinsoo created DotA: Allstars from the original DotA, created by Eul, by adding his own mix of content, including over 40 heroes, numerous items, and various gameplay changes. Guinsoo then passed DotA: Allstars on to its current developer, Icefrog. Pendragon, who is the Director of Community Relations for Riot Games, helped create the DotA: Allstars website along with its forums.

basically, Starcraft (Aeon of Strife AoS) --> Warcraft (DotA, and DotA-Like Games)
Eul --> Guinsoo (Went to make LoL(league of Legends)) --> Icefrog (Who is now working with valve?)
