Thread: 5 things SimCity needs (MyGaming column)

Where do you people pull the bigger map DLC from? Honestly? EA is bad, but they'd have to be absolutely retarded to sell bigger maps as DLC. Maxis has already said they might look at increasing the size of the maps in future, but that it isn't currently feasible because it would be too performance intensive on the servers at the moment.

Honestly, one person makes up a misguided rumor that bigger maps are going to be sold as DLC and now it's suddenly taken as fact? No man. We're smarter than that.

You mean like any other game out there? How many people are still playing Dishonored? Or Hitman Absolution? Or the new X-com? Games enjoy a high surge of popularity at release then it dies down as people start to get bored, move onto new games etc. That's the way the videogaming industry works.

Ja, this is pretty much my feeling too. I'm not sure why you feel the need to defend it so vehemently Graal?

I don't see the need to 'defend it vehemently.' In fact, there's quite a bit of fault I find with this game. I just feel that this incessant rumor-mongering and need to find something wrong with an otherwise excellent game is unnecessary.

Aside from their idiotic refusal to process refunds, Maxis and EA have actually done a really spectacular job resolving the issues. How long was it before we could play Diablo 3 after release? Two weeks? A month? Simcity is stable, as of yesterday. Four days after launch. To top it off, they're even giving affected customers gifts as an apology.

I can understand some people are upset about the online-only requirement, but some people are also blowing the entire thing out of proportion while not giving credit where credit is due.

I don't want to play devil's advocate, but one might have to consider the fact that this game is SimCity and not SimCity 5, therefore a reboot (I think :?). This says to me, there may have been a complete change on their design philosophy- as it happens with reboots. BTW, I'm on neither side of the fence (since I'm an outsider looking in).

http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2013...t-let-this-go/ That pretty much sums everything up.
When an anti-piracy method is affecting the game for people who legitimately bought it and causing other people not to buy the game, there is obviously something wrong with it!

Ugh. RPS have become such sensation-whores lately, not to mention their growing PC elitism that is just as bad.

Fine, nobody has to like the online-only DRM, but to claim the game is inherently broken because of it? Bullshit. I love how they say it's the perfect game to play on a train or airplane. Yes, because I've seen 100s of people playing games while in transit. Erm, wait, no I haven't. RPS have probably never heard of iPhones or Android phones. If I want to play a game while I'm sitting on a train, I'm going to pull out my android phone, not a bulky laptop. And that's what most people do. I have literally never seen anyone pull out a laptop to play games in a public space. It's just a nice McGuffin sites like RPS use to further their argument.

So, basically, yeah. Some people don't like online-only DRM. Fair enough. I can respect that. But that does not make the game inherently broken. Others, like me, honestly don't mind online-only DRM because there hasn't been a single time in the last 3 years where I have been without an internet connection on my main gaming PC. If, in some unlikely event, my internet goes down then I get up and go do something else, like play with my dog or something.

I've seen lots of people do exactly that on trains and in airports. I've done it myself. Just because it's not common or doesn't happen in South Africa doesn't mean that it doesn't happy anywhere else either. It's probably related to our lack of public transport and high crime.

Yeah uhm no. I doubt that. With the rise of mobile gaming on tablets and phones I doubt that. If it does happen, it will happen less as tablets and phones become increasingly capable.

With the rise of games such as Caesar III, Starcraft, Baldur's Gate etc becoming playable on android and iPhone devices, I don't really see people pulling out bulky laptops to play games on the move.
