Default Getting R200,00 back from City of Johannesburg is not easy

A slip of the finger caused a Lenasia man to pay the City of Johannesburg R200,000, which he is now trying to get back, it was reported on Wednesday.

The Star reported that Tishor Daya had been trying since November to get a refund, after he making the mistake while doing his internet banking.

The R200,000 payment was meant for the Johannesburg Fresh Produce Market, but was instead made on the rates account for a property in Ormonde where Daya's daughter lives.

the city needed "absolute proof" the money had been paid into its account before it could do a refund
Perhaps the city should look at its bank statement.

Good luck to the guy. I've been fighting with them for 3 years to reverse the rates and taxes that they kept charging me for a year after I sold my old place.

They don't do "money back" - only "congrats account is now paid till the year 2450".

Somewhat off topic: I just discovered that Tshwane revises their electricity estimates shown on the statement retrospectively once they get an actual reading to make them look less wrong.
