On a side note, it seems Steam have this fancy Tier'ed pre-order bonus system going, where the more people pre-order the more bonus you get. Anyway, this game has passed Tier 1 and suddenly it's almost hitting Tier 2 now. Tier 2 gives you a free copy of Rift:Storm Legion (costs $39) . So if you were looking for Rift and possibly this game, buying Defiance on Steam is a good option at the moment.
It has gotten so bad now, that people who pre-ordered elsewhere (i.e. directly from Trion) are trying to cancel their pre-orders and order from Steam, the Tier'ed bonusses are just that much better.
Also, apparently the client can be pre-loaded directly from Trion already (there's a link to download on the site). However i would wait a day or two before patching , for in case.
