EA have been taking some risks with new IPs lately, Dead Space and Mirror's Edge come to mind. That being said, a sport's franchise is always a 'safe' option.

Yeah soccer sims are rubbish. Hardly any progress is made year on year yet they still charge full price. Biggest rip off in the entire gaming industry. EA are laughing all the way to the bank

It's not just the soccer. Rugby, cricket, golf ... you name it ... and EA rehashes it every year.

If people stopped buying it, they might actually stop producing crap, and try something decent for a change.
