Stop talking SA down: Zuma
South Africans should stop talking their country and its economy down, President Jacob Zuma said on Thursday.
Speaking at a Human Rights Day commemoration ceremony in Mbekweni township, near Paarl in the Western Cape, he told his audience: "We need to take a more balanced view of our country".
Zuma called on all to work with government to build both the country and its economy, "to make our country attractive to both foreign and local investors".
I agree with that, but normally we just talk its leader and government down.
Then stop bringing the country down and then won't have anything to say.

Well let's see now Mr President what we have to work with here:
- a police force that sees to favor brutality over human rights,
- a rudderless public broadcaster, whose board was appointed by you,
- workers that are out of control; that really inspires investor confidence,
- no head of the Special Investigations Unit for 18 month; again you are taking the fight against corruption very seriously
- violence against women and children hits the headlines all to often
We can go on and on. So where's the ownership JZ, start being an effective leader and no doubt we'll all be a lot more positive!
Ah the classic "lets pretend there is no problem" ANC solution.
We really deserve better... All of us.

I never talk the country down. Ever. Personally, I love this beautiful country I live in. However, the president and government is a different story. When both actually do their work in a transparent, ethical, honest and non-corrupt way, then they will also get my respect and appreciation.

I feel obligated to tell the truth...and yet somehow balance it with not being excessively negative. I'm prone to just telling it as it is (more accurately as I see it) in the name of truth. Yes it affects our image, but I won't lie to distort perception.
Its all decidedly grey, not black/white though...so everyone must call their own shots.
I can't help but wonder ... "or else what?" Will we be thrown in prisons if we don't comply? It sounds like a veiled threat from Zuma.
When an anti-piracy method is affecting the game for people who legitimately bought it and causing other people not to buy the game, there is obviously something wrong with it!
Stories like this should be pushed under his nose to highlight the senseless slaughter of hundreds of innocent people in our "nonviolent" country:
