Default AMD 8000 series are rebadged 7000 series.

This came to me as quite a shock. So basically we will be paying extra for a re-tweaked 7000 series cards. I was planning on going AMD for my next card but rather wait for the 9000 series. From what I read its for OEMs only, so there might be some good boosts from Asus or MSI or whoever.

lol Let me save you quick mate xD
They are talking about oem cards as in cards that go in pre built machines and laptops ect.
This is standard practice in the industry.

There will still be a new range of monsterous 8xxx cards for gaming and enthusiasts.

    Now relax lol

The problem is, they are releasing the high end ( HD 8870-8970 ) cards to OEMs which leads me to believe there won't be much change between the OEM and individual versions. Could be wrong, but this is the first time I see this, and it's really not a honest business practice.

Never on such a mass scale, not that I can recall of. You figure we get our own individual cards then?

Ok thanks...was wondering because those specs are very identical to the 6gb nvidia titan. And that's just the 8970, what monster specs will come with a 8990???

Well, I still have my doubts about the differences between oem/individual cards but we will see when individual cards are announced.
