1. The Wii was the cheapest and it catered for an entirely different market. So much so that i would not even find it valid to compare it with the Xbox or PS3.
As for launching first, in terms of identical products, i still disagree. The PS4 and Xbox 720 will be catering for the exact same market, they will be having the exact same games (with a few exclusives here and there) and we know it's probably going to be a 3-5 year thing. So if you know all this and the PS4 launched with a year headstart; and the latest Call of Duty/Crysis/Whatever is coming out , it being "ported" back to the Xbox 360 (read:inferior version to the PS4) after a delay of months, seriously how long do you think "core" gamers are going to wait before they buy the PS4 ?
Also i'm not saying a console will "win" in the long run by launching first, in fact the PS3 and Xbox 360 is neck-and-neck at this point in time. I'm saying a year headstart is going to have you gain alot more customers than without it. The Xbox 360 was the "underdog" when it launched, if they launched directly against the PS3, it might have been a different story.
Anyway, you are missing the point and clearly just nitpicking. Launching first is a factor, period, it's not the ONLY factor, but it sure as hell is a factor. It's a factor in any industry, especially in the tech industry (if Samsung launched their latest gen cellphone a year ahead of Apple's latest gen, what do you think will happen? Actually it already happened) . Obviously 3 month difference in launch times is not a factor, but a YEAR is (as was the case with the Xbox 360)
2. I never said the Xbox 1 Failed, i just stated it was far less popular than the PS2 at the time. Besides if they only launched it in limited territories, then by definition my point is valid. Doesn't mean it's bad or inferior.
