I figure you don't join the army if you have the brains to do anything else with your life. There are very few circumstances in which fighting for someone else's ideology is justified.
And while there is many a grand military strategist whose tales will be told long after we are all gone, in a society whose culture is as superstitious as ours, can anyone really be surprised that even our generals fall for it?
As long as there's superstition, there's a gullible idiot who'll fall for anything that caters to their fancy.
