/Puts fingers in ears to force out the sounds of Forza fans screaming in disbelieve.
This is a fact. Every ardent gamer I know is in the process of switching their gear from XBOX360 to PS3 (myself included).Considering that the PS3 Slim is now available for R3800, and South African’s can buy the console knowing that its online component is fully supported here, it may fast become the console of choice for local gamers.
Not only do South African’s have to pay a premium for consoles and games, but as long as Microsoft continues to ignore the region, local gamers will never experience full Xbox 360 functionality.
Sad but true.
Well, at least it wasn't unexpected. We called this last week already. Still sucks for Forza fans.![]()
Ill get a PS3 but ill never switch over to PS completely. I love my xbox too much.
With SA's sub par internet infrastructure and horrid exchange rates we are not a prime market for these kinda companies. Sony provides support and +1 to them for it. However sony needs every gamer it can gets which i why SA is supported. M$ on the other hand doesn't notice the absence of our 6mil or so gamers. If i was a Multi billion dollar corparation i wouldn't pay this small little spec of Dirt on the face of the planet much heed anyways. I would focus on 1st world countries that can support the features i offer. just my humble opinion anyways.
still buying it !!
I agree. I love my Xbox. Two years without a hitch.
But :
It can't play the media I need (x264 5.1 media/Blu-ray)
M$ don't want to drop pheripheral prices (R1200 for a wireless adaptor, R1100 for a 120GB hard drive upgrade)
Sony gives you free (legitamate in ZA) online play (Finally with cross game chat /parties coming next month)
Point taken on the significance (or lack thereof perhaps) of ZA, but : The odds are stacking up against M$...
Unfortunately, this results in them charging full price for an incomplete product.
If Sony can do it, despite the fact that they have far less money to throw around than MS, then the fact that MS don't do it is inexcusable IMO.
If we are not a 'prime market' then they should not be here. It bugs me that they are happy to sell their consoles and games in SA, but when it comes feature absence and poor product support, all of a sudden we are 'not a prime market'.
And what makes it worse, is that they will not talk about it. They shut the media out, and refuse to explain exactly why SA continues to be ignored. The "we are working on it" response wore thin a very long time ago.
Right now, with the Slim priced at just R300-R400 more than the 360, Uncharted 2 and God of War 3 coming out, along with free and full access to PSN and the local mirror, not to mention added features like built in WiFi and Blu-ray, you would have to be nuts to buy an XBox over a PS3 (in SA).

They forgot to mention that the South African online PS3 shop is MONTHS behind the international versions. I admit I like the online PS3 experience but it's nothing to boast about like they're going on in the article. Another flaw is that they're comparing DLC on an exclusive XBOX 360 game and then using the PS3 online service to counter the arguement....silly?
I'm still buying this game. So what if you miss out on a few extra cars, you get 400 cars straight out of the box and then there is SURE to be some excellent pay-for DLC coming shortly.
There is NOTHING that can down my spirits for this game. It's my game of the year!
