The DA was never involved in the liberation of South Africans and is associated with oppression, Police Minister Nathi Mthethwa said on Wednesday.

"The Democratic Alliance wants to label itself as the spokesperson of our people. The party is actually synonymous with the oppression that our people suffered," Mthethwa said at a Congress of SA Trade Unions (Cosatu) Workers' Day rally in Sharpeville.

Funny thing is that the DA members (read:not the DA) were a bigger part of the struggle against apartheid compared to the ANC which was just another small insignificant group at the time.
