Ye its pretty sad Unless they revamp the game as a whole its going to keep declining. People are getting tired of running through the same content for almost a decade. The newer MMO's are posing a great threat to their subscriber list, especially with free games (content purchasable only) like Neverwinter or even once off games like Guild Wars 2.

Eh, it's inevitable that WoW's userbase will start declining, but I highly doubt it will reach the point where enough users will leave for the game to cease being profitable.

The thing that always made me wonder was they say its 8.3-million subscribers but when i went on i never really saw anything close to a million people despite the large world and servers 8.3 is alot of people. That number i thought was always how many people have downloaded the game and made a account. needless to say how many are standing players, 1.3-million is a number i can see to be realistic and true to the game thats been running for a long time.

Uhm... that's because they're spread across servers and in different time zones? 8.3 million users are the current amount of active subscriptions for the game. Seeing as they charge a monthly fee, it's pretty easy to determine how many people are playing, or still paying for, your game.

so what they said now is that from 8.3 million subs they lost 1.3 million players across the all servers.

they left with 7 Million people still playing wow across the 4time zone servers and then split up in there game servers and then across the world.

I wonder if WoW might consider changing their subscription fees.
While I can understand that a company still getting 8.3 Million people paying R150 a month to play a game,
They have lost 1.3 Million subscribers..

Some models to keep in mind that do work are Guild Wars (Pay once and play for free) and League of legends (Free to play)

Let me put it this way, If WoW was R1 per month that would have been 1.3 Million rand per month they have now lost due to the current business model.

While I understand that WoW is getting a bit long in the tooth I do feel that a better subscription rate would breathe new life into a model thats clearly losing customers.

I know that blizzard has servers to run and bills to pay, I dont say they should make it free, but what if they dropped the subscription rate to R50 a month, and lets say 500 thousand people only left the game due to subscription rates and newer games being free to play or being cheaper, that would have been a 25 million rand loss had Blizzard changed the subscription rate and managed to retain 1.3 million subscribers.
And who knows ,I might go back to playing WoW if it was cheaper.

Thats my pebble in the pond lets hear what others think ?

Cheaper subscription fees would not only bring old subscribers back, but a lot of new people who weren't up to paying $15 a month would also likely subscribe.

If I could pay R600 a year for my subscription, I'd leave it running all year long, even when I'm not playing the game.
