Default Atari Auctioning Off Game Assets in July

Atari will attempt to sell off its game franchises at auction in July in a bid to curb its bankruptcy losses.

The Wall Street Journal is reporting that the company, which filed for bankruptcy in the US back in January, will try and sell its IPs separately after a bid to find a buyer for the entire catalogue failed.

The auction will take place over four days in July and comes after meetings with 180 potential buyers resulted in just 15 offers, none of which were deemed satisfactory. Atari now hopes that selling its franchises separately will maximise returns.

IPs confirmed to go under the gavel thus far include Rollercoaster Tycoon for a minimum bid of $3.5 million, Total Annihilation for a minimum bid of $250,000 and Test Drive for a minimum bid of $1.5 million.

Atari is, of course, most famous for creating arcade classics such as Pong and Asteroids.

The name is cursed. I don't think it's even the same company as it was originally.

Wasn't Atari bought by the French company that made Alone in the Dark 1... Infogrammes or something?

No guts, no glory, no brain, same story.

Such a lousy company. I remember so well when I went to a friend's house and saw his NES playing Super Mario Bros. That was the day Atari died to me.
