I think making a rugby game should be totally viable given all the tech that already exists for Madden. I don't think EA's attempts were that good though. It got very arcady and took a lot of the strategy out of the game. A really great rugby game would have to combine the EA rugby games with elements from Pro Rugby Manager - if anyone remembers that. Incidentally, i think Pro Rugby Manager 2 is the best rugby game ever made, by some margin. It recognised that a lot of what you want to do in a rugby game is things like calling backline moves, deciding how deep the backline should stand, setting up defensive patterns etc. In the EA games all that strategy goes out of the window and the game gets reduced to a bunch of timing minigames.
