Thread: Dota 2 ixdl SA/ZA (dota league)

Default Dota 2 ixdl SA/ZA (dota league)

So for those who are at all competitive, I have an "idea".

I was perusing this lovely forum that I've come to like less and less over the years (I started this topic on the twilight gaming forums but have since expanded it to multiple South African communities), and saw this topic. When I was in the states I was lucky enough to play with some of the fairly well known players in an american league, which included ixmike88 (formerly team fire, then coL, now team liquid). I've been in correspondence with mike about a potential ixdl SA/ZA. For those of you that don't know, the ixdl is a dota league, which has had fairly great success. They have a few sub leagues for each respective region (US/EU/SEA/AUS). I have approached Mike with the idea of forming one for South African. Tentatively, ixdl Open (SA/ZA).

This will be a competitive yet friendly league where you will need to be "vouched" in, and where games will be played in Captains Mode, with everyone using either voip and/or mumble / skype / teamspeak / raidcall. It will hopefully increase interaction between locally competitive players, and increase the likelihood of players becoming better, quicker, and forming new clans with like-minded players, thus increasing interest in dota 2 in South Africa as a whole, and hopefully increasing exposure.

This would be a league for individuals, similar to how our once saihl (South African In-House) leagues worked. I know saihl 1 and 2 had some "interesting" reputations, mostly bad, but I also know that my time spent in/with each of them respectively, was the time in which I learnt the most and grew the most as a player. Now of course, I'm no pro here, but I do think I have grown a lot over the past few years as a player (and a human being for that matter) and would like to ask the public if this is something they would be interested in playing in, with myself as someone who may or may not be able to contribute at an administrative level (having been an admin in the IHL era). DGL shows that we do have the demand for a competitive environment in South Africa. Over 150 teams signed up. Now, of those 150 teams, you could argue that we have a minimum of 750 competitive players, although I'm sure most of them haven't actively contributed to this forum (Twilight Gaming) specifically, so what I've done is posted this on multiple different forums, including My Broadband forums, the Do Gaming forums, Twilight Gaming forums, MyGaming forums and SA Gamer forums, in the hopes that we can try gauge interested in this sort of thing. As much as you may or may not like/dislike me, I'd like for you to think of it in as much of a non-biased way as possible.

Basically the league sways away from the IRC approach (due to several reasons) and uses the IXDL program (more info here: http://ixdl.net/index.php/topic/5-th...oad-link-here/). There are points given to players for certain games and acheivements, and taken away for other respective reasons. Although I would suggest taking a look at the original ixdl site, I'll post some information on the rules over here too.

    Spoiler: show

    How do points work?
At the end of a game, the team who wins will gain points and the team who loses will lose points.
Players with higher rating will win less points and lose more points.
Points can also be acquiried from streak bonuses and the Rapier.

    Streaks:
Players with 5 or more win streaks will gain a percentage of their winnings as a bonus.
Opponents will gain bonus rating if they defeat a player who is on a 5 or higher streak.

    Rapier:
The player with the Rapier will receive a bonus 10 rating per win.
If the player loses a game, he will lose 10 rating and the Rapier will drop.
When the rapier is unclaimed, anyone except the last Rapier holder can take it using the .take command.
The .rapier command will show who currently holds the Rapier.
If you hold the Rapier and do not play for more than 24 hours, the Rapier will drop.
Points can be lost from losing the Rapier, rating decay, or being truant.

    Rating Decay:
Only applies to players with 1200 or more rating.
After 48 hours of not playing, you will lose 1% of your rating.
Every 24 hours after the initial 48 hours you will lose 1% rating.

    Truant:
Truants can occur when you do not show up for the game in a timely fashion.
You are eligible to be truant when you do not show up for a game 5 minutes after its confirmation.
If you receive 6 truant votes, you are considered truant.
Truants result in a 7% rating loss and 4 warns, truants will also close the game.

    How do warns work?
Warns are our way of punishing players, you can be warned from being truant, game ruining, excessive bad play, etc.
Warns decrease at a rate of 0.10 warns per game.
If you exceed 10 warns, you will be timebanned for 1 day per exceeded warn.

Any and all feedback is welcome, from all forums and communities, looking to hear any constructive criticism, and ideas from all of you. Hopefully we can stay away from any trolling and flaming

ye this looks quite fun I will be Interested. You should have posted under the PC section tho.

Maybe James can move the Thread for us.

Do you plan to bring the DGL players in as this is basically an individual sort of Mixed Clan mode as in COD4 and BF3 but with international players. I reckon this is a great idea. Wp sir
