But probably what you need to examine 1st:

Thing is, I had no clients order any of the newer ATI cards yet, So I have yet to get my hands on a 5850 or 5870. WE primarily do 275 and 295 (when available) cards in all our performance builds.
I'm looking at replacing my GTX260 Black Edition, with something like the 5850 and went and checked some reviews. Games like Call of Juarez the 5850 outpaced the 260 by up to 60FPS on Max and over 30 on average, farcry 2 it was around 20FPS faster, and strangely enough in Crysis/Crysis Warhead, it was only 5-8 FPS faster.
This could be due to Drivers, as they have yet to evolve etc. I do all my gaming Full HD Rez, so I'm a bit indecisive/ unsure wether to go ahead and source myself one. The longer I wait the less my 260 will be worth...
I'm really a bit sceptical on the above mentioned results, as I included COD WAW's for a reason.
Their test setup :
Processor: Intel Core i7 920(ES) @ 4.0Ghz (Turbo Mode Enabled)
Memory: Corsair 3x2GB Dominator DDR3 1600Mhz
Motherboard: Gigabyte EX58-UD5
Cooling: CoolIT Boreas mTEC + Scythe Fan Controller
Disk Drive: Pioneer DVD Writer
Hard Drive: Western Digital Caviar Black 640GB
Power Supply: Corsair HX1000W
Monitor: Samsung 305T 30” widescreen LCD
OS: Windows Vista Ultimate x64 SP1
My Setup
CPU: Q9400 @ 3.2
Motherboard: MSI P45 Neo3
Ram: 4 GIG Transcend aXeRam 1066
VGA: XFX GTX260 Black edition.
They say with their I7 powered rig they only get 64.56FPS Average, and 52 Min.
HAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHA
I used Fraps And the builtin COD FPS benchmark from a recording I made ingame, so its teh same thing everytime to test. AS I play CODWAW league, I get alot of time in with it.
My "Inferior Rig" Caps out at 125FPS (engine lock on COD) with an average on a full scale multiplayer battle with 24 players AVG: 85, Min 61
That's 20 more on the average, and 10 more on the minimum.
hence I don't trust reviews.....
