PC Stolen, need help replacing it

Howdy,

As stated in the title, my pc or rather pc's were stolen 2 weeks ago.

I have R10k to build a new rig and need some advice on specs.

I had a Q6600, 4 gigs ddr2 800, intel mobo, HD4890 1gig, coolermaster 600w psu, samsung 2494 monitor, 160 gig 7200 rpm HDD.

I do not need a keyboard or a mouse as that was not stolen (who would want my G15 anyways!).

What do I use the pc for? Online games like EVE, WoW and perhaps some AION.

If possible could you break down your suggestions into:
1) Mobo
2) CPU
3) PSU
4) RAM
5) GPU
6) HDD
7) Monitor

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I'd rather go for the acer 23" Full HD

I'd Probably go for the 2494hs screen that you previously had, once u have gone big, u cant go back to 23" as well it features a HDMI port so if you have a ps3 or a blu ray dvd player its much more worth it. Screen is going for 2050, for extra size and hdmi port and well eh extra speakers i guess then i would say its definately worth it, had the samsung 2333BW before but i now have the 2494hs monitor, i much prefere it.

1) Replace the motherboard with the MSI P55-GD65. It's far superior to the Asus, especially at that price point (it overclocks better and has two PCI-E 8X slots. Go read some reviews on it if you don't believe me.)

2) CPU is okay, i'm still more a fan of the 860, but thats out of budget.

3) Nice PSU.

4) DDR3-1800 is overkill, unless you overclock quite substantially. I'd recommend something along the lines of DDR3-1600 from Mushkin. Remember, if you're going i5, the memory needs to be rated at 1.65V or lower.

5) You can buy an ATi HD 4890 for under R2000 these days. Makes no sense to buy a GTX260/275.

6) I'm very much not a fan of Seagate after the whole firmware debacle. I'd spend a bit more money (which you saved on the ram and gfx card) on the Western Digital Caviar Black (model number: WD1001FALS). Faster drive, and I'm more convinced as to the reliability of WD drives in general.

7) I'd most definitely go for the Samsung P2370. Best bang for buck, and it's true HD (unlike the 2494HS).

Incidentally, not attacking your choices slippery, just used your list as a base for comparison

I will not be overclocking at all so that can be factored in. I had a 4890 and I might just go with that again as I was aiming to upgrade that come end of next year.

Lastly, I'll need to factor in a case. Any ideas on a case whilst trying to stay withing 10k?

Well the above machine is already over budget by about R1000 i'm afraid

You simply can't build a half-way decent machine for less than R10 000 unless you buy parts 2nd hand.

Personally, I'm using the Thermaltake Element S chassis atm, and it's frankly one of the best mid-towers i've come across - as evidenced by the fact that i managed to fit my OTT rig (including WC) into the case. And it still looks neat and tidy. Unfortunately, I'm not sure if its widely available yet. Price should be under R1000 though.
