I just want to share this moment I got to spend with Mandela at his house in Qunu a while ago before the Soccer World Cup.
We were there to film an interview with him and I really couldn't think of anything to say to him except, "Nice to meet you." He replied "Oh really? Its better to meet YOU!" Classic Mandela.
My father was with me here too and Mandela remembered my father from freakin years back, "Oh you were the camera man from the museum opening in Mveso." My father couldn't believe it because all he said to him at the time was a brief greeting before filming a quick interview after cutting the ribbon.
It gets even more amazeballs. He said "you know, its my tea time. Would you like to stay for tea?" So we said yes of course. So there my father and I were in Mandelas lounge having tea. He didn't stay with us very long after that but he left us there to check out all his gifts from around the world. He kept all his favourite ones in his house in glass cabinets and the rest of the gifts fill up a museum in Umthatha.
Before he left us he said "have a safe trip home and you must sign my guestbook! I like to remember all my visitors."
In the guest book we saw every celebrity under the sun had signed in it.
That was the utmost highlight of my career so far.
