    Doctors treating former president Nelson Mandela have denied that he is in a vegetative state, the presidency said on Thursday.

    "We confirm our earlier statement released this afternoon after President Jacob Zuma visited Madiba in hospital that Madiba remains in a critical, but stable condition," spokesman Mac Maharaj said in a statement.

    I can't remember the last time I saw a 94 year old person spend a month in a critical condition and live. My grandfather couldn't survive a week in ICU

    Shame they must just leave the poor guy to go if he must. I'm certain they're keeping him on the machines till after his birthday and then he'll rest in peace.

    Same. My granddad was healthy, fell and injured his hip. Went to hospital and was gone 3 days later (most likely the shock on his body). he was 89.

    I wish they could just stop this crap. They fighting over issues and then still say they care about Mandela name. Really Maybe this is just me.

    I think they are waiting for their chance to do more political rallying. When Mandela dies I don't know how much support ANC will still have, think they will lose a lot of respect

    I really hope their numbers take a dip, it would be for the better IMO
