    Default Fun & Priorities

Grand Theft Auto V is designed to be fun, says Rockstar. Sounds like a no-brainer, but that little bit of PR buzztalk says a lot more than you may think.

When you examine fun as a motivator versus the more common justifications given for game design these days, you get a good sense as to where a developer's loyalties lie. Does a game care about your enjoyment after you've bought a game, or does it just care that you bought it?
Sorry I'm late with this one but I have been out in the bush this weekend.

So let's start with define fun? Entertainment or wider audience?

    Good question I must say...

So I recently started playing Just Cause 2. Its been a very entertaining few hours I've spent with the game. I've probably had more fun within those few hours that in most new games I've played in a while. It's not the best game I've ever played, not by a long shot. But its so much fun. Why? Because it appeals to what I want to get from my gaming experience.

I want something that makes me feel like a bad ass; that gives me the freedom to play the game as I want, that does stuff that makes me go "WTF" out loud at my screen. Only a select few games have managed to really entertain me on this level. Grand Theft Auto 4 was one of them

Luckily no one of us are the same, which is why there are so many different types of games for us to choose from. And this will also mean that what I find fun within a game is much different than what someone else does. It is for this reason that I strongly suggest anyone tries all the different games out there available and find what tickles their fancy.

Minecraft is an example of this. It's a wildly popular game, yet not everyone can see the appeal of it. Which is fine, because what Minecraft gives me is what I want out of games.

So ja thats my few thoughts on this...
