The thing is that the mobile gaming market is bigger than the console market, which is bigger than the pc gaming market for a simple reason: Casualty
The average rugby player jock at school has probably played snake on his cell phone before, whereas the guy that plays cod4 or dota on his pc is usually the guy who takes gaming a bit more serious.
Most parents (who can afford it) would prefer buying a DS or PSP for Christmas over a PC because 1) its cheaper and 2) they know their kid will like it, even if he not a hardcore gamer.
But I kinda agree with the public transport thing. I even considered getting myself a DS or ipod just coz of how bored I get on flights. Now imagine if you had to take a train every day...
