Screw this ANC ruled government. I will let my kids know what a clothesbrush can REALLY do. Just like I knew from my mom. And I never feared her, I feared the consequences of what would happen if I disobeyed my parents.

By spanking your children you are letting them learn that certain actions have consequences that they may not like. It's an important life lesson. The reason why we have a lawless youth generation on our hands is because parents didn't have the balls to teach their kids this important lesson. Now they're "banning" parents from teaching their kids this lesson? This country is an absolute pile of garbage. I can't wait to raise my kids in Canada and watch this piece of crap burn to the ground!

I'm not saying there shouldn't be consequences, I'm saying that the punishment does not necessarily have to be corporal. As an example, my boss is an extremely "hippy" parent who never even shouts at her kids, never mind takes a hand to them; they're punished in far more creative ways. Surprisingly, I've never seen two more well-behaved, well-adjusted five-year olds in my life. On the flip side though, I have a mollycoddled cousin who's an awful terrorist of a child. Go figure.

I think it depends on the individual family and its culture and values, plus the age of the kids, and a whole bunch of other factors. And who knows, I may lose my shit with my kid one day and decide on the spot that the best course of action is indeed a klap; again, not something I can decide until I actually have said kid. However, my own personal approach will always be respect first.

Should that fail though, can I pop round your place to borrow a wooden spoon?

Hehe, will see when I have children of my own. Until then the government should really stop sticking their noses in something that they have no say over. I like the comments on the article where people said they would drop off their kids at a government dept for a few days and see how they sort them out.
When an anti-piracy method is affecting the game for people who legitimately bought it and causing other people not to buy the game, there is obviously something wrong with it!

Ag i grew up on a farm so the only punishment that meant anything was a hiding.

I did not get pocket money.

The farm was far from any town or school so grounding me would not be a punishment.
As i'm the youngest of 4 boys, by the time I was in Gr2 my brothers was either in Uni. or Worked or in High School, so i grew up alone anyway.

but the one thing that kept inline was.... ons seekoei sambok.

It helps you remember to NEVER do that sh!t again.

I respect my parents, I was never disciplined if I did not deserve it. I deserved it a few times

I got the belt many, many times. I still remember my mom and grandma holding me down to whip my ass. Of course they hit lightly, but the whole affair of getting hit on the bum made me cry hard. Not because of the pain, but of knowing that what I did was wrong ( mostly climbing up the cupboard and stealing sweets ) . Afterwards we sat down and they explained to me why they whipped me. That is how a child should be disciplined.

Looking at some teenagers today, I still thank them for how I turned out to be.

This is pathetic, most of us were given hidings when we were kids and we all turned out reasonably fine, even the previous generations. Can't help but feel the person who thought up this idea to get it made ilegal was abused and doesn't want it to happen to somebody else but rather draw the line as to how far is too far

I think the best scenario is to bring up your kids in a way in which they will never require something like hitting them. There are many other effective measures one can take to discipline a child, you don't need to hit them.

As I've been saying for years, it's just not viable raising a child in this country anymore. For more than one reason, including shit like this. Or am I the only one that feels this way?
