I love how my son amazes me. He start with Grade 1 this year and obviously started to learn to read. We had to help him every night with a couple of words, but becuase he is tired he gets frustrated. I was worried that he might struggle, but didnt pressure him, that would be the last thing to do.
Last night, we unpacked his bag, wanting to see which words he needed to learn. He himself took out a book, opened and started reading. I was amazed! Its not very complicated words, stuff like mamma, pappa and other easy words in very short sentences, but damn...what an amazing experience.

I remember reading (I read slowly ok... ) about how a childs brain, especially in the early years, soak up so much and learn very fast. Raising a kid is so much more than just food and clothes, I realise I state the obvious, but I mean more the experiences you go through, watching them grow up and being able to do more and more for themselves. From relativly easy stuff like pouring his own cooldrink, making a sandwidch, etc. And time....holy crap it goes by fast, he is turn 7 this year...

VirtualForce, what juice do you give him? My 4th Grader has to be threatened with death (no TV, no Computer) before he picks up a book. And don't get me started on homework...

Yeah man, it's amazing. Cody is going to Grade-R next year and he amazes me with the things he already does and wanting to do. The words he comes up with sometimes and the things he tells me just blows my mind. He's starting to write specific letters and can recognise numbers. They really learn and grow at an exponential rate, we really need to cherish this time and the moments.

Not sure whether its got anything to do with it, but I like to read. So when I'm reading he asks me what I'm doing, and also the ever present, WHY? I tell him its fun and that I learn. I just like to buy him books and he gets very excited about them. I bought him those comic books bundles are CNA a while ago. You know those things that you get the first one for extremely cheap, then after that, they release a book or thingy every two weeks. It was two comic book universes. He cant read them yet, but loves paging through them.

Also, I've bought him these a while ago,
* Skilpad Leer vlieg + lots of other titles
He saw these somewhere and wanted them
* Sterre En Planete
* Oseaan

But its best to get something thats approved for his education, meaning, something that doesnt go against the way his or her teacher teaches them. I for instance wont teach him how to write, the teacher in his Grade 00 and 0 class asked us not to as they have their own method.
Like these, which are approved and they are dirt cheap.
* Slimkoppe Vaardighede Leesbegrip

Little blurp about the books

Yup, they really do. We need to, like the other day, I was late and in a hurry to leave for work. I was near the car when he called me back through the burglar doors and the front door. I turned and went back to him and just wanted to say "Ek hou van jou pappa."
Like, blown away, nothing could spoil my day. At least I'm doing something right.

Heya, my daughter 18 months old seems to be getting separation anxiety at night. She falls asleep without any issues. But around 02:00am she wakes up with a terrible scream and crying. As soon as you enter the room she falls down onto her tummy, calms down and almost falls alseep again. Till you make a sound or move and she starts crying again.

Any of you have had this happening to you? And what did you guys do to handle it?
