Default Help me build a R10000 gaming PC!

    Hi all

I am looking into a new build to replace my old faithful which got me through university and into a new job (4 years old!) (and hence some spare change for the first time in my life for a new build)!

This is what I am looking at:

CPU: Intel i5 (possibly this one: http://www.prophecy.co.za/intel-core...-p-116012.html)
GPU: gtx 760 (possibly this one: http://www.prophecy.co.za/nvidia-gef...-p-169800.html)
    HDD1: 128Gb SSD (possibly this one: http://www.prophecy.co.za/kingston-s...-p-164574.html)
    HDD2: I already have a 500Gb Sata2 that I plan to use.
RAM: 8 to 16 Gb 1600 MHz (possibly this one: http://www.prophecy.co.za/corsair-ve...-p-168435.html)
PSU: I already have an Antec 650 Watt - will this be enough/ok? I have this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817371010
MB: I have considered the below options, but I am really unsure here! As long as it works with all of the above I am happy.
    - http://www.prophecy.co.za/z77iae53-l...-p-159502.html
    - http://www.prophecy.co.za/z77iae53-l...-p-159502.html
Case: Any case, as long as it works with above components.
Other peripherals: I already have screens, keyboard, mouse.

Price: Preferebly around R10000.00 but I might be able to go up to about R13000.00

I would like to buy from Prophecy.co.za because I have experience with them and they can build and test my rig. I also like RebelTech.co.za though, and am open to try other recommended online shops.

    Thanks!!

    Hey Wenzdayz

Thanks, yeh I actually saw and replied to that thread asking if he could swap out the HD7950 for a gtx760... I've always been an Nvidea guy and really like that 760. Seems to outperform the HD7950 and gtx 660Ti too...

That rig of his is extremely tempting though..!

Thanks, I see I just got a reply, and good to hear the recommendation!

In any case - I am still looking for help on the system above if anyone has any advice. Options being the spice of life and all that...

It looks like a solid build. Why did you choose Ivy Bridge over Haswell? Also have you considered AMD such as the FX8350...8 cores?

    Hi

I chose Ivy Bridge over Haswell because I read somewhere (I can't remember where) that IvyBridge is the right way to go at the moment. I can't remember why - I am beginning to doubt that decision. I will try find that article I read.

I haven't really considered AMD at all, mainly because I never have before. I was under the impression that Intel were doing better things with their technology. Also not convinced 8 cores will ever even be made use of in a gaming pc? Correct me if I'm wrong though!

I happen to have that AMD core and it is pretty good...
It runs my games fine (like most CPUs should) and when my bro renders shit it handles it pretty well...

But it is your decision and if you think the intel core is what you want (preference and performance) then choose it!

If it is purely gaming you can not go wrong with AMD. Gamers have used them for years. As the FX8350 has 8 cores it will perform very well in game streaming and video editing as well. The extra cores will also help future proof your build as many of the updated and new software available are starting to utilise the potential of the cores.

P.S Haswell is better! Especially in South Africa where prices of Ivy and Haswell are similar.

    Hey guys

8 cores is pretty amazing. Was looking into parallel processing and GPU based programming at work a few weeks ago, and 8 cores would be cool... but I think I still prefer intel for now (I feel like an old man harping on about tradition or something )

Good to know about the Haswell vs. Ivy Bridge thing too. I'll edit my build as such...

Speaking of which, what MB would you recommend? I've looked at this one: Asrock H87 PRO4 Intel H87 Chipset LGA1150 Haswell ATX Desktop Motherboard
(recommended to me elsewhere - Looks quite impressive)
