8 cores is pretty amazing. Was looking into parallel processing and GPU based programming at work a few weeks ago, and 8 cores would be cool... but I think I still prefer intel for now (I feel like an old man harping on about tradition or something)
Good to know about the Haswell vs. Ivy Bridge thing too. I'll edit my build as such...
