RPG for teenagers

Skyrim is probably a good place for casual gamers to start. It's not a bad game, just incredibly shallow.

I dig Bethesda's worlds, the lore behind them and exploring them. But, as you say, they're incredibly shallow and shallow does not a good RPG make
